Tracing Bitmaps
You can turn a bitmap image into vector.
Highlight the image on the stage and select Menu-Modify-Trace Bitmap. The pop-up menu panel appears. There are several options on this menu. Color threshold is the most influential – it may be changed up to 500. If you use large numbers – the image will be “posterized”. Color area value reflects how much pixels around the current point are taken into account when vector color is calculated. Curve fit reflects the smoothness of the vector color boundaries.
Experiment with this values but be careful – if you want to prepare the very detailed traced image it may take a lot of computer resources and if your computer is slow it could be several minutes to complete the process. Also don’t experiment with large area bitmaps – it also could be for very long.
When vector is ready you may edit it, change colors of some areas or erase a background and encapsulate resulting drawings in symbols. It gives an advantage comparing to bitmaps which are impossible to edit in Flash.
The left top example is the original bitmap, other two are vectorized.
