How to study Flash

Flash is a practical tool. It’s friendly and easy to use. And there is no things that are difficult to understand – there are no “mental blocks” when learning Flash.

Also there are not so much “theoretical” in Flash learning process. It’s not a situation when passing an exam will guarantee that you “know” Flash.

To be able to use Flash as your design tool you need to work with your hands. Let’s compare this to playing piano. Doesn’t matter how well you know a theory of playing, you were not able to play a simplest etude. You will need a lot of exercises to reach the perfection.

The same is Flash – you need exercises every day and amount of practical work must exceed greatly the time you spent on reading.

Our course is broken into several lessons. They are short and simple. But after reading every page and looking at the examples you must open Flash application and create something that employs the same techniques.

Keep all your Flash examples saved on the disk – later you may use them as a reference or template.

It would be a good idea if you start thinking about larger project such as a hobby site from the beginning of the course. You will collect samples, which could be easily utilized and used for your project. For example you would like to create a site about butterflies. So, when you learn about fonts and texts and asked to create an attractive title example – create the title “Butterflies”. When learning using images in Flash – find appropriate butterfly pictures and import them in Flash, and so on.

Again, don’t be trapped in easiness of Flash – it could be tricky when you working. Make a self-assessment at the end of the each lesson – ask yourself not only “Do I understand how it works?” but state – “I made it and it works!”
